CTOnews.com, July 6, according to Japan's Sankei Shimbun, Toyota released data today showing that its new car sales in China in June were 174500, down 12.8 percent from a year earlier, the first negative growth in three months. Toyota pointed out that the rapid growth of car sales was driven by the introduction of tax breaks for car purchases in China in June last year, which was caused by a high base.

Honda sold 113133 new cars in China in June, down 19.8% from a year earlier, while Nissan sold 69139 new cars in China in June, down 28.0% from a year earlier.

So far, new car sales of the three major Japanese automakers in China have all declined in the first half of this year (January to June). Of this total, Toyota sold 879400 new cars, down 2.8 per cent from a year earlier; Honda sold 529691 new cars, down 22 per cent from a year earlier; and Nissan sold 358509 new cars, down 24.4 per cent from a year earlier.

Analysts pointed out that in addition to increased competition for price cuts in China's new car market, the lack of a sufficient lineup of electric vehicle products by foreign manufacturers such as Japanese automakers is also an important reason for weak sales, because in the Chinese market, electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular with consumers.
