CTOnews.com, July 6 (Xinhua)-- the copyright of AI model training data sources has long been a clich é, after Microsoft was complained of "keeping public code for itself" and OpenAI was accused of "illegal use of book data training."

OpenAI is once again involved in the copyright of training data, with two well-known horror writers claiming that ChatGPT illegally embezzled their data for training, and the court is currently hearing the case.

One of the authors of the ▲ Touyuan court documents involved in the lawsuit is Paul Paul Tremblay, who was best known in 2018 for his horror novel The Cabin at the End of the World. The novel has been adapted into the film Knock at the Cabin, directed by director M. Night Shyamalan.

Another writer is Mona Awad Awadh, who is also a well-known North American horror writer and author of 13 ways to look at fat girls (3 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl), Rabbit and all ways (All's Well).

CTOnews.com found that the two writers sued on the grounds that ChatGPT was able to generate abstracts of their works in defiance of copyright:

The plaintiff does not agree to use its copyrighted books as training materials for ChatGPT. Nevertheless, their copyrighted materials have been used to train ChatGPT, because usually only ChatGPT has studied these works to generate relevant information.

OpenAI has not commented on this, the lawsuit is still in progress, and given the current attitude towards the copyright of AI training data, the chances of OpenAI winning are not high.
