Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, July 6 (Xinhua)-- Spotify has taken it to court several times because it is dissatisfied with Apple's 30% cut, and they removed the option of allowing new users to subscribe to the platform through in-house subscription in the iOS app as early as 2016, but those who have subscribed to long-term service have not been affected.

Spotify now sends notifications to those subscribers that it will no longer support in-house subscriptions on iOS, including existing customers.

Users who are still subscribing to the Spotify service through the iOS app have received an email saying that Apple's billing system is no longer valid, so existing Spotify Premium subscribers need to re-subscribe through the Spotify website, Variety reported.

We contacted you because you used Apple's billing service to subscribe when you joined Spotify Premium. Unfortunately, we no longer accept this method of payment as a form of payment. If you want to keep your Premium subscription, you need to re-subscribe after the end of the previous billing cycle.

At the end of this subscription service, users who subscribe to Spotify Premium through App Store will convert their account to a free account, and then they will need to upgrade to a premium account again through Spotify.com.

At present, Spotify Premium Hong Kong subscription is HK $58 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB 53) per month, of course, you can also choose HK $98 per month for family subscription or HK $29 for student subscription.

In 2016, Spotify decided to avoid Apple's 30 per cent commission by offering in-house options in iOS apps to allow users to subscribe to Spotify Premium services, whereas Spotify Premium subscriptions by iOS users would have been more expensive before that.

Of course, users who used in-house subscriptions to Spotify Premium before Spotify cancelled this method still have to pay more, so Spotify still has to pay Apple 30% of its iPhone and iPad subscriptions.

In fact, Apple's 30% commission policy is already under scrutiny in many countries and regions around the world, so Apple has decided to change this policy in places such as South Korea.

Starting from March 2022, the iOS app allows users to subscribe to its paid service through external links, without paying an additional 30 per cent cut as long as the app does not use Apple Apple Pay's in-app purchase feature.

Spotify is not the only App that has given up on the in-house option for App Store apps. Netflix removed this option from its iOS application as early as 2018, so users of Netflix for iOS need to subscribe through the official website.

In addition, the European Digital Market Act passed by the European Parliament will also force Apple to allow developers to distribute applications outside App Store, which is bound to have a significant impact on Apple, as App Store is already an important source of revenue for the company.
