CTOnews.com, July 5 (Reuters)-the United Nations will recruit dozens of robots, including several humanoid robots, to help achieve a series of increasingly impossible global development goals, the United Nations said at a recent "AI for humanity" campaign in Switzerland, Reuters reported.

▲ Pexels in 2015, the United Nations set 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) aimed at improving human life and the earth's environment by 2030, including eradicating poverty, eradicating hunger and ensuring equity in education, but it is now widely believed that there is little hope of achieving these goals.

At the event, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) showed off some robots that have been put into use, such as "Nadine", a social robot that can simulate different emotions and "remember" the objects they interact with, and ITU has used it to serve nursing home residents. During the two-day event, robots will take questions from reporters at a press conference for the first time.

Frederick Werner, director of strategic cooperation at ITU's Bureau of Telecommunications Standardization, said in Geneva: "our idea is to demonstrate the capabilities, opportunities and challenges of robots to start a global dialogue on robotics to achieve public welfare goals."

Werner added that robots are likely to flourish in the next five years, just like the generative AI technology used by OpenAI's ChatGPT.

CTOnews.com previously reported that a number of United Nations agencies are already using AI technologies, such as the World Food Program's Hunger Map Project, which brings together data to identify areas that are suffering from hunger. The United Nations is also developing a remote-controlled truck system to provide emergency assistance in hazardous areas. The World Health Organization is working on a benchmark system to ensure the accuracy of AI disease diagnosis.
