01. The principle of the appearance of stars when light enters the lens, it produces diffraction. The shape of the leaf of the lens aperture determines whether the stars can appear. When the entrance to the lens is very small and angular polygons, the stars will appear.

The entry port of some lenses is round, and even if the aperture is narrowed, it is relatively round, so it is difficult to get a star effect. Although the stars cannot be photographed, the virtual effect of the lens is very soft, which is suitable for taking soft portraits.

You can look at the camera in this way:

1. Reduce the aperture, for example, to F16.

two。 Set the focal length to the shortest (wide-angle end).

3. Press and hold the depth of Field Preview button to look at the entry hole of the lens directly from the outside.

02, wide-angle plus small aperture mentioned earlier, only when the light entrance is very small, there will be obvious stars.

So how can we make the light entrance smaller? the answer is to reduce the aperture (increase the number of F) and shorten the focal length.

When shooting the stars, you can use a small aperture like F11~F16, the stars are too big to be obvious, and too small will reduce the quality of the picture. At the same aperture, the entry hole at wide angle is smaller than that of telephoto, and it is easier to get stars.

03. Transparent point light sources are more likely to appear stars.

What is a point light source? Is that the light source is only the size of a point in the photo.

It is easy to shoot stars in a street lamp, but not in a full moon, and the areas of the two are different.

In addition, the transmission ability of the light source is strong.

If you are shooting the sun, the sun itself should be bright and the air should be good, so that the light can "drive straight in". You can squint a little to see if the sun can shine into long stars.

04, occlusion method what if the light source area is too large, not a point light source, such as the sun?

At this time, we can use the occlusion method to change the composition, let the branches and rocks cover part of the sun, make it easier to shoot stars, but also reduce the damage of strong light sources to CMOS, killing two birds with one stone.

For example, in the following photo, moving the camera makes the stone lion block just a little bit of the sun, and the stars appear. If you don't want to have glare, you can take off the UV mirror of the lens, but the effect is limited.

05, the number of stars the number of edges inside the lens determines the number of stars, odd sides, the number of stars should be multiplied by 2, even sides, the number of stars is the number of sides.

If there are five sides, there will be 10 stars, if it is 10 sides, there will still be 10 stars, because the two opposite stars in the even-numbered sides will overlap.

06. When shooting a strong light source such as the sun with a screen view, it is not recommended to look directly at the optical viewfinder so as not to harm the eyes. At this time, you can turn on the screen and look at the electronic screen to take the view. In this way, the photos are WYSIWYG, and you can see the effect of the stars and the brightness of the photos from time to time.

07, star awn filter how long you can shoot the stars, whether the stars are clear and sharp, is largely determined by the structure of the lens. Even some shots can not show the stars at all, can only envy others.

Now there is also a professional star filter, which can enhance the effect of the star. If necessary, you can look for it yourself. Put the lens in front of the lens, you can get the stars, without affecting the use of large aperture.
