CTOnews.com, July 5 (Xinhua)-- Google scientists recently released a preprinted paper on the ArXiv platform, saying that they have made a major breakthrough in quantum computing and can complete a computing task that a classic supercomputer takes 47 years to complete in seconds.

Image source: Google launched the 53 qubit Sycamore processor in 2019, and this experiment further upgraded the Sycamore processor to 70 qubits.

Google said that after upgrading the Sycamore processor, although due to coherence time and other factors, its performance is 241 million times higher than the previous version.

In the experiment, the scientists carried out the task of sampling random circuits. In quantum computing, this involves running random circuits and outputting the results of analysis to test the performance of quantum computers to evaluate their ability and efficiency in solving complex problems.

Google says the industry's most advanced supercomputer, the Frontier, takes 47.2 years to complete, while the 53-qubit Sycamore processor takes only 6.18 seconds, while the new 70-qubit Sycamore processor is faster.
