Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for the delivery of clues on the way! CTOnews.com, July 5 (Xinhua)-- the protracted patent battle between Apple and Optis continues, and Apple's failure to convince the British Court of Appeal (UK Court of Appeals) means that it will still have to pay up to $7 billion (CTOnews.com Note: about 50.75 billion yuan).

Optis sued Apple in the UK in 2019, alleging that Apple's iPhone products infringed two of its 4G patents.

In March 2022, the High Court of London ruled that two 4G patents owned by Optis were standard necessary patents that Apple had infringed.

Apple filed an appeal in May last year, claiming that the patents in the lawsuit were not necessary for 4G standards and that the company did not infringe on them.

The Court of Appeal ruled on Tuesday that the High Court "correctly rejected [Apple's] argument for non-infringement" and held that the patents were necessary, CTOnews.com reported, citing Reuters.

Apple had previously threatened to withdraw from the UK if the fees were determined to be "commercially unacceptable" for the company.
