Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, July 4, Microsoft announced at the Build 2023 developer Conference held in May this year that Win11 will natively support decompressing RAR and 7-Zip files. Microsoft has invited the user experience to test the feature in a preview update for Win11 Build 23493.

Prior to CTOnews.com, the new preview version of Microsoft Win11 integrates the libarchive open source project and can natively extract the following file formats:

.tar

.tar.gz

.tar.bz2

.tar.zst

.tar.xz

.tgz

.tbz2

.tzst

.txz

.rar

.7z

The compressed files in the above format are in the form of a folder by default in the Win11 file manager. If you double-click the compressed file in the above format, the user will jump out of the same unzipped window as the ".zip" file, and the user can follow the on-screen instructions to complete the decompression process.

It should also be noted that the current Win11 system does not support decompressing encrypted compressed files.

For example, when the user unzips the ".7z" file containing the password, double-clicking does not pop up the validation password window, but prompts an error.

Microsoft has previously said it will release the decompression feature in September this year, and next year will launch native creation of compressed files in RAR, 7-Zip, TAR, GZ and many other formats.
