Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, July 4, Intel engineers introduced their latest advances in ray path tracing and neurographics research. Intel is said to be working to achieve more efficient path tracking rendering and to enable integrated GPU to implement path tracking in real time.

He provides three papers published by Intel Graphics Research on SIGGRAPH, EGSR, and HPG, introducing new path tracing optimization methods designed to reduce the burden and improve GPU performance by reducing the number of calculations required to simulate light reflection.

First, Intel showed a new way to calculate reflection on GGX microsurfaces. GGX is a graphics technology that allows computers to capture simulated light reflected in different directions. If you use this new method, the material will be "simplified" to a hemispherical mirror, making it easier to simulate.

The second paper shows a more efficient way to render flash surfaces in 3D environments. According to Intel, simulating flash surfaces is an "open challenge", but if you use this new method, the number of visible flashes per pixel can be taken into account. In this way, GPU only needs to render the flash that the eye can see.

Finally, another paper shows an effective method of constructing photo trajectories in different lighting scenes, called Markov Chain Mixture Models for Real-Time Direct Illumination. Although the interpretation is very complex, the end result is a more efficient rendering technique that can output complex direct lighting effects in real time.

Of course, these three technologies obviously do not guarantee that the integrated GPU will run ray path tracing smoothly, but they have a profound impact on improving the core aspects of path tracing, including ray tracing, shading, and sampling, which will help improve the real-time path tracing performance of GPU.

As far as CTOnews.com knows, real-time ray tracing technology has been around since 2018, but it still requires extremely strong performance to use, and most GPU still can't guarantee to run modern AAA games under high-resolution 60FPS with light tracking turned on.

Foreign media believe that if Intel can achieve good ray tracing on its own integrated graphics card, then it will bring this technology into more mainstream products, and Duxian can also achieve better light tracing results.
