CTOnews.com news on July 2, today, the largest domestic new energy transmission channel across the Yangtze River-Jiangsu Taizhou Fengcheng to Wuxi Meili 500kV power transmission project has been completed and put into operation. After the project is put into operation, it can increase the transmission capacity of new energy across the river in Jiangsu by about 30%, with a maximum annual transmission capacity of more than 26 billion kilowatt-hours, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 10 million tons per year.

According to the new Jiangsu China Jiangsu Network, the 500 kV power transmission and transformation project from Fengcheng to Meili is a key project in China's 13th five-year Plan. The construction of the project took nearly three years, and two tallest transmission towers in the world were built, with a span of 2550 meters across the Yangtze River, with a total line length of 178km, with a total investment of more than 1.5 billion yuan. During the construction of the project, for the first time, new technologies and materials such as cast steel joints, annular steel frame members and extra-strong steel core aluminum alloy strands were adopted, setting five world records such as the height of tower holding poles, and the overall project was made in 100% China.

The completion and operation of the project will enhance 30% of the transmission capacity across the river in Jiangsu, and the maximum annual power transmission is expected to exceed 26 billion kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a medium-sized city, providing a strong guarantee for summer power supply in the Yangtze River Delta region. At the same time, the project will also effectively solve the problem of obvious characteristics of regional economic development in Jiangsu and some differences in energy structure between the north and the south. At present, 99% of wind power and 67% of photovoltaic power in Jiangsu are distributed in northern Jiangsu, but the power load in the Yangtze River Delta is mainly concentrated in the south of the Yangtze River. The construction of cross-river transmission channels can connect clean energy production bases and power load centers on both sides of the Yangtze River.

It is reported that the site of the project on the south bank of the Yangtze River is located in Wuxi. "in May, the electricity consumption of the whole society in Wuxi reached 6.782 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 15.04 percent over the same period last year, which is 3.38 percent higher than the average of the whole province." Wu Wei, deputy general manager of Wuxi Power supply Company, said that the project can send wind power, photovoltaic and other clean energy from northern Jiangsu to Wuxi and radiate to central cities in southern Jiangsu, such as Suzhou and Changzhou, effectively ensuring high-quality development of the local economy.

In addition, the project will also promote the efficient consumption of clean energy such as large-scale offshore wind power, which can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 10 million tons per year. The project helps the construction of a new power system with an increasing proportion of new energy, which optimizes the allocation of resources on a larger scale, and provides a strong support for the integrated development of energy in the Yangtze River Delta.
