CTOnews.com, July 2 (Xinhua)-- Humane, a company founded by former Apple employees, has been promoting a vision for the future that centers on artificial intelligence and transcends smartphones. Today the company unveiled its first product, the Humane Ai Pin, which officials say is a "clothing-based wearable device" that will be available later this year, running Qualcomm's "advanced Snapdragon platform" and using a range of sensors for "situational and environmental computing interaction".

Humane does not disclose the exact features, appearance and price of the Ai Pin, and all we can see so far is a blurry picture of a square device the size of a playing card. Its name suggests that it may be fastened to clothing like a pin without the need for a pocket.

Most of what we know about Ai Pin comes from the TED conference in April this year, when Humane co-founder Imran Chaudhri showed off a device on stage, probably the Ai Pin. He used it as a voice assistant, made phone calls, received automatic summarization of the day's plans, took pictures to get nutritional information about chocolate bars, and projected a small green screen on his hand. But this demonstration doesn't make us understand how Ai Pin works, such as how the device automatically translates Chaudhri's words into French when he speaks English. How does he control the projection screen?

Humane's introduction to Ai Pin is full of the word "AI", but it doesn't explain what it means. What is even more puzzling is that "Ai" is not all uppercase and may have some special meaning.
