Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens South China Daniel Wu, Qingfeng Langyue, Coje_He, OC_Formula for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, July 2 (Xinhua)-- YouTube is conducting a new experiment to limit the use of ad blockers, requiring users to turn off ad blockers or buy premium subscription services after watching three videos.

A user posted a screenshot on Reddit showing that users using the Advertising blocker extension on the desktop side will see a warning from YouTube: "the video player will be disabled after three videos." The following message reads: "We find that you may be using the ad blocker. Unless YouTube is whitelisted or ad blocker is disabled, video playback will be disabled."

Another user posted a screenshot showing a reminder that YouTube blocked access to the video after three videos were played, saying that "the ad blocker violated YouTube's terms of service". Some users also encountered YouTube restricting the ad blocker on the mobile side.

YouTube said the warning was part of an experiment. "We are conducting a small experiment around the world to urge viewers who use ad blockers to allow YouTube to play ads or try YouTube Premium," Google said, adding that if users did not add YouTube to the whitelist of ad blockers, it might temporarily disable playback in "extreme cases."

CTOnews.com notes that YouTube has conducted experiments in the past to encourage people to buy advanced subscription services. YouTube conducted a brief test last year, requiring users to buy a payment plan to watch 4K videos. Last September, YouTube even tested showing as many as 11 unskipped ads at the beginning of the video.

Last year, YouTube said its music and paid services had more than 80 million subscribers.
