CTOnews.com, July 1-Samsung's early flagship mobile phone "Samsung Wallet" application supports MST technology (magnetic secure transmission), which requires dedicated hardware support, which can simulate the magnetic stripe of a physical credit card and pay in a bus card machine or POS machine without a NFC module.

Rayista, a well-known public transport analyst, tweeted a few days ago, revealing that Samsung has abandoned the MST technology and has fully switched to NFC payment.

According to a tweet from ▲ source Rayista, Samsung is currently pushing Samsung Wallet 5.0.85 in batches to its devices with MST technology, according to Rayista. This version completely disables MST payments at the software level, while users' previously simulated credit cards will not be available.

Samsung had previously said in a tweet from ▲ source Rayista: "due to the rapid adoption of NFC technology by consumers and businesses, Samsung Pay will focus on supporting NFC transactions in the Galaxy portfolio from devices launched in 2021. Although future devices will no longer include magnetic stripe technology (MST), customers using previously compatible Galaxy devices will be able to continue to use Samsung Pay, including MST."

CTOnews.com inquired that the last phone with MST hardware was the Samsung Galaxy S10, which was released in May 2019. Samsung's software and hardware maintenance cycle is usually three years, so Samsung's decision to abandon the feature completely is reasonable, but it is also quite a matter of opinion considering that users still pay for the hardware.
