CTOnews.com June 30 news, Red Hat recently announced restrictions on access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) source code, affecting AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux and other downstream distributions.

Rocky Linux today posted a blog called "Keeping Open Source Open", saying that it will continue to access RHEL's source RPMs (SRPM) through various online resources such as RHEL-based public cloud instances or UBI container images.

One is to use RHEL-based UBI container images, which can be obtained through many online channels such as Docker Hub.

With UBI images, Red Hat sources can be easily, reliably and unhindered. We have verified this through the OCI (Open Container Program) container, and it works exactly as expected.

Another way is to use paid public cloud instances. With this, anyone can launch the RHEL image in the cloud to get the source code for all software packages and errata.

We can do all the work through the CI pipeline, start the cloud image to get the source code through DNF, and automatically publish it to our Git repository, which is the easiest extension for us.
