Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

Beijing time on June 30 morning news, it is reported that Apple will try to defend a revised EU antitrust charges on Friday local time, and the ensuing huge fines. The allegation states that Apple prevents music streaming companies like Spotify from informing users of purchase options other than the App Store.

Apple will present its views to senior European Commission officials and counterparts from national competition authorities at a closed-door hearing in Brussels.

Earlier this year, EU antitrust enforcers strengthened charges against Apple for alleged anti-manipulation obligations, but dropped previous charges that Apple required developers to use its in-app payment system.

The commission said the anti-manipulation obligation violated EU rules against unfair trading conditions, a relatively new legal argument in antitrust cases.

Apple said there was no legal basis for the 2019 cases arising from Spotify complaints, noting that the Swedish music streaming service dominates the market in Europe, while Apple Music ranks third or fourth in most EU countries.

Another Apple argument is that the company has changed its rules to allow reader apps like Spotify and Netflix to provide links to their websites when they sign up and users pay, allowing app developers to bypass the controversial "Apple tax."

Spotify will also attend the hearing, but the company refused to accept Apple's latest anti-manipulation rules, saying they haven't changed anything. The company urged the European Commission to make a swift decision.

The Commission said it never commented on possible oral hearings or hearing dates.
