On June 30, Inflection AI, an artificial intelligence start-up, said on Thursday that it had raised $1.3 billion (currently about 9.425 billion yuan) from investors such as Microsoft and Nvidia.

Inflection AI is only a year old and has won the support of several heavyweight Silicon Valley companies. The latest round of fundraising has both cash and cloud credit, valuing Inflection AI at $4 billion (currently about 29 billion yuan), according to people familiar with the matter.

Inflection AI, founded by Google DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman and recruitment platform LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, focuses on developing consumer-oriented artificial intelligence products and is considered OpenAI's main competitor.

The company just launched Pi, a chat robot, last month, which uses generative artificial intelligence technology similar to ChatGPT to interact with users through conversations, allowing people to ask questions and share feedback. Inflection AI says it hopes to create a personalized artificial intelligence product that helps people plan, schedule, gather information and perform other tasks.

Last week, the company released a report on Inflection-1, the model behind the chat robot Pi, which it claimed outperformed most existing language models.

Mr Suleiman, chief executive of Inflection AI, said most of the money raised would be used to build computing power to develop a stronger basic model.

"We will build a computing cluster of about 22,000 Nvidia H100 chips, which is estimated to be three times the total amount of computing used to train GPT4," Suleiman said on Collision Conference on Thursday. "this processing speed and computing scale will enable us to really build a different product."

After OpenAI's chat robot ChatGPT caused a sensation in the industry at the end of last year, the field of artificial intelligence is regarded as the next technology frontier.

In the past few months, the industry has attracted a lot of investors.
