Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen South China Wu Yanzu for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com June 29 news, after experiencing market share decline and government censorship, Xiaomi seems to have decided to carry out large-scale layoffs.
A Xiaomi employee told India's Economic Times that the number of employees in the company has now been reduced from 1,400 to 1,500 to about 1000. The brand has reportedly laid off about 30 employees in the past week alone, with more likely in the coming months.
In response, a Xiaomi India spokesman said,"Like other companies, we will make personnel adjustment decisions based on market conditions and business forecasts, and the local leadership in India has been authorized." He added that the company will hire new employees as needed.
In addition, a senior executive at the brand revealed that the leadership team was told to assign a portion of the team to perform performance reviews to determine whether their work contracts could be terminated.
According to Counterpoint Research data, Xiaomi's market share decline was mainly attributed to weak demand in the following market segments (Xiaomi's highest sales volume) of 10000 rupees (CTOnews.com Note: Currently about 883 yuan), where shipments fell by 44%, the largest decline in the brand's history. Counterpoint said the company's performance in 2023 was flat, with shipments falling sharply year-on-year.
The company entered India in 2014 and rose rapidly in the third quarter of 2018, becoming the number one smartphone brand in India. But recently, Xiaomi, like many other Chinese companies, has been under pressure from the Indian government.
Manu Kumar Jain, former head of India, left in June 2021, Alvin Tse, former head of Xiaomi Indonesia, took over as general manager, and Muralikrishnan B was promoted to president of India.
Several employees told The Economic Times that all key team leaders in online and offline sales, distribution, marketing, and product categories report directly to Tse, who attends all meetings and makes most decisions through the Business Management Committee (BMC) after discussions with headquarters, even conducting performance reviews. Another Xiaomi executive said BMC included members of the Indian leadership.
