Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com June 29 news, according to tomshardware, Micron said it plans to launch the first GDDR7 memory chip in the first half of next year.
It is reported that the new model of video memory is expected to provide higher performance than GDDR6X, but it needs a new controller and GPU support.
According to Tuyuan Meguiar, Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Meguiar, said: "We plan to launch the next generation G7 products on the industry-leading 1 node in the first half of 2024."
Foreign media pointed out that the official launch of the new video memory does not necessarily mean that it will be adopted commercially immediately. Because GDDR7 uses a completely different encoding than GDDR6 or GDDR6X, a new memory controller and GPU are needed.
As previously reported by CTOnews.com, Samsung also predicted its GDDR7 memory at Samsung Technology Day 2022 in October last year, saying it could reach 36Gbps rates.
In addition, earlier this year, Cadence revealed that GDDR7 video memory will use PAM3 coding technology. Compared to GDDR6 (using PAM2), GDDR7 is expected to have higher bandwidth without the complexity and power consumption of GDDR6X (using PAM4).
