Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 29, according to the Nippon Keizai Shimbun, people familiar with the matter said that TSMC and its suppliers plan to send hundreds of employees from Taiwan to Arizona to speed up the construction of the local plant.
▲ TSMC Arizona plant is the first TSMC plant set up in the United States in more than 20 years, but it lags behind due to labor shortage and other factors. TSMC has admitted that the cost of construction is higher than expected.
According to three sources from the chip industry's supply chain, TSMC and its suppliers are negotiating with the US government to assist in non-immigrant visa processing, with the goal of sending more than 500 experienced employees to the United States as soon as July to speed up the installation of clean room facilities, pipelines and other equipment.
It is reported that one of the main goals of TSMC is to "improve work efficiency and help make up for the time lost." "there are not enough workers with excellent first-hand experience in semiconductor production equipment in the United States, and many people are not familiar with the regulations of chip factories, which has led to the postponement of many projects," the source said. "
TSMC had hoped to start mass production at the Arizona plant sometime in 2024, but recently decided to postpone production to prepare more time for uncertain challenges. While job shortages and lack of engineering permits are the main reasons for the backwardness of the project, some analysts pointed out that TSMC may also be interested in slowing down its expansion because the semiconductor industry is cooling.
In Taiwan, TSMC can usually get a chip factory into production within 30 months, but it can take more than three years in the US to get the plant into production.
CTOnews.com previously reported that TSMC's Arizona plant recently had a number of safety accidents, and used drills to cover up dangerous gas leaks and evacuate employees, thus raising questions about the safety of the plant.
