In response to this, Tencent officially replied to CTOnews.com, "since 2015, WeChat Pay began to enter the campus, for campus non-profit payment scenarios (tuition and fees, living services, etc.) for a long time to give zero rate preferential policy, continue to invest in bank access fees and other costs." For the campus non-profit payment scenarios (tuition and fees, living services, etc.) will continue to maintain the preferential policy of zero rate. Recently, WeChat Pay launched a communication among merchants for the fine management of rates in the campus industry. after early opinion collection and feedback, it is proposed to continue to provide services at preferential rates lower than the average market level only for a small number of profitable scenarios such as e-commerce and wine travel. " According to people familiar with the matter, most of WeChat Pay's preferential rates for for-profit scenarios are 0.2% 0.38%.

CTOnews.com noted that the announcement issued by Northwestern University said, "as Tencent WeChat Pay will carry out fine management of campus scene users from July 1, all fees except tuition fees will be restricted and 0.6% handling fee will be charged."

At present, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Zhoukou normal University, Jiangsu normal University, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Zhengzhou University of Light Industry, Zhengzhou Institute of Aviation Industry Management, Luoyang Institute of Technology, Northwest University for nationalities, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) and other universities have issued similar announcements.
