CTOnews.com, June 29 (Xinhua)-- Global Energy Monitoring (GEM), an independent research group based in San Francisco, USA, recently released a report saying that wind and solar energy are booming in China and may help limit global carbon emissions faster than expected.

According to ▲ source PexelsGEM, there are more solar panels installed in large-scale projects in China than in other countries in the world combined. In terms of wind energy, China's installed capacity has doubled since 2017.

GEM says this is just the beginning. China plans to more than double its wind and solar capacity by the end of 2025, which will increase the global number of wind turbines by 50 per cent and large solar installations by 85 per cent.

Last year, global spending on wind and solar energy exceeded $500 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3.62 trillion yuan), with China accounting for 55 per cent of that. China has become the world's leading supplier of solar panels, which has reduced the cost of the entire supply chain, and environmental laws and subsidies have also played an important role.

GEM also believes that China's 2030 green energy target is expected to be achieved five years ahead of schedule. China is the world's largest consumer of coal, which is mainly used for power generation. About 69% of China's carbon dioxide emissions come from coal, and the development of renewable energy will effectively reduce the consumption of coal for power generation.
