This time we are talking about Microsoft's WSUS service. WSUS is short for Windows Server Update Services and is the Windows Server role provided in the Windows Server operating system. WSUS is a networked patch distribution solution launched by Microsoft, and because it is included in the Windows Server role, it is free, free! Say the important thing three times.

WSUS contains all the software updates of Microsoft. The WSUS server that acts as the source of the update is called the upstream server. Of course, in the actual environment, at least one or more WSUS servers are connected to the Microsoft Update to get useful update information. The administrator can plan according to the number of organizations or sites. In addition, the WSUS server can also be the source of updates for other WSUS servers in the organization.

After the WSUS server is deployed, all clients in the organization can obtain updates through the WSUS server instead of the public network, thus saving external traffic; and because the server issues patches uniformly, it increases the update rate of the client. WSUS support organizations can not only delay updates, but also optionally approve updates, choose when to deliver updates, and determine individual devices or groups of devices that receive updates. WSUS has more control over Windows updates that apply to the enterprise.

The following are the system requirements for the WSUS server:

Processor: 1.4 gigahertz (GHz) x64 processor (2 Ghz or faster recommended)

Memory: WSUS requires an additional 2 GB of RAM, not the RAM required by the server.

Free disk space: 10 GB (40 GB or more recommended)

Network adapter: 100 megabits per second (Mbps) or higher
