CTOnews.com, June 29 (Xinhua)-- Apple today released an update to the Safari browser Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future versions of Safari.

The Safari Technology Preview 173 brings a number of new features to Safari 17, which is included with macOS Sonoma. There are some features that Flag replaces the Experimental functionality section of the Development menu, and the Development menu itself has been improved. In addition, the responsive design pattern has been updated to focus on the responsiveness of the page design at any height or width.

Feature Flags is a new part of the Safari technology preview settings, replacing the experimental part of the development menu. It allows users to search for specific features. Feature Flags has a "stable", "testable", "preview", or "developer" status, and can now be organized by theme.

The redesigned Development menu makes it easier for users to find relevant content and key tools to help users create Web sites, Web applications, Web content within other applications, Web extensions, and more.

The Responsive Design Mode responsive design pattern has been updated to focus on the responsiveness of any width or height of page design on the Mac. You can easily jump to the device simulator by specifying the viewport size at the top of the responsive design mode, or by dragging the resize handle around the window.

Profiles on macOS Sonoma help users separate browsing data, including history, favorites, tab groups, and site data, such as notification subscriptions, Cookie, caching, and service worker threads.

The Web application on macOS Sonoma has been improved to allow users to add any Web site to Dock.

Private browsing on macOS has been improved to lock private browsing windows when users are not in use, and to add advanced technical protection against tracking users.

Managed Media Source hosted media feeds combine HTTP real-time streaming and media source extension capabilities into an easy-to-use, energy-efficient low-level toolkit for adaptive streaming.

JPEG XL support: a new image format has been added with an improved compression algorithm to achieve better image quality at a smaller file size than JPEG, but with the same progressive loading function.

HEIC: added support for iPhone and iPad camera photo file formats, allowing developers to import and edit photos directly in the browser.

Live Text real-time text: added support for vertical text recognition in images and videos.
