Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 28 (Xinhua)-- Chevrolet announced today that it will no longer launch its planned $40, 000 entry-level Silverado EV electric pickup truck due to cost pressures in the electric car industry. Chevrolet also promised to launch more low-end versions at reasonable prices in 2024.
The prices of the first three versions of Silverado EV have been announced, all of which will be available in 2023:
Silverado EV 4WT:79800 dollars, has started production
Silverado EV 3WT:74800 dollars, launched shortly after the launch of 4WT
Silverado RST:106895 dollars, launched this fall
Silverado EV 4WT and 3WT are both Work Truck and are available only to fleet customers (customers who buy or lease a certain number of vehicles for commercial or public services). The main difference is that the 4WT has a larger battery and a range of 450miles. 3WT is not yet EPA certified, but Chevrolet expects it to have a range of nearly 400mph. The Silverado RST, the top version of the Silverado EV, can accept bookings from retail customers and is expected to have a range of around 400km (CTOnews.com Note: about 643.74 km).
Chevrolet plans to launch a variety of Silverado EV versions for retail consumers, including an Work Truck model and a Trail Boss model at different prices. Chevrolet also promised to offer a Silverado EV model with a starting price of $50000, and if the buyer's state has an electric car subsidy and a federal tax credit, the Silverado EV could eventually sell for less than $40, 000.
If Chevrolet can launch the promised $50, 000 Silverado EV, it will be about $10, 000 cheaper than Ford's lowest price, the Fmuri 150 Lightning Pro. After a series of price increases, the Fmur150 Lightning Pro now starts at $61869, which is $20200 higher than it was when it first launched in the spring of 2022. And the car only carries a standard battery pack, with an EPA-certified range of only 240miles (386.24 km).
Ford and Chevrolet are not the only companies that canceled their plans after promising to launch a $40, 000 electric pickup truck. Tesla also promised to sell a $39900 basic Cybertruck. But last summer Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the $40,000 Cybertruck was no longer available because of inflation.
