Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, June 28 (Xinhua) according to the latest ranking of the US Consumer satisfaction Index (ACSI), Americans' dissatisfaction with Internet service providers (ISP) is second only to gas stations, ranking second from the bottom of 43 major industries.
Every year, ACSI publishes a research report on the telecommunications industry, covering cable television services, video streaming services and optical and non-optical ISP. This year's telecom industry study, based on interviews with 22061 US consumers between April 2022 and March 2023, surveyed people's satisfaction with ISP and compared it with data from several other industries.
CTOnews.com noted that ISP scored only 68 on a scale of 1 to 100, with 75 for fiber optic users and 66 for non-fiber users. ACSI calculates the scores of the two types of ISP based on user feedback on 14 aspects, from choosing a package to actually using a home wireless network, and combines them according to usage. Fiber-optic users thought their networks were relatively reliable and their bills were easy to understand, both of which scored 80 points, while non-fiber-optic users rated them only 72 and 75, respectively. Unsurprisingly, the most dissatisfied aspect for both fiber-optic and non-fiber-optic users is contacting ISP's customer service team.
There is only one industry that ranks lower than ISP, and that is gas stations. Americans are generally dissatisfied with ISP's performance in terms of hardware, pricing, customer service and Internet outages, but they hate refueling in dusty roadside parking lots.
This month, Jessica Rosenworth, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announced that she was leading an investigation into the way ISP imposed data caps. Although ISP proved that they could withstand unlimited data use at the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic, they have since restored restrictions on customer data use, charging users who exceed the package limit or reducing bandwidth. Given that Internet connectivity is becoming more and more important in daily life, Rosenworth is understood to want to determine whether these data caps are really necessary or just a selfish business decision.
