CTOnews.com learned after inquiry that the "My Number" digital ID card is the unique identification of Japanese residents, and residents need to hold it to access government services. The ID card is equipped with NFC chips, so it can be used online and offline, and the Japanese government recently prepared to use the ID card to replace the original health insurance card.

▲ The Japan Times reported that Taro Kono, the digital minister, demanded a thorough investigation of the matter, and Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs said that these entity identity documents had not been abused by the black industry, and even "the people who received the new identity cards may not know at all."

In response, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida apologized in a public statement on June 21 and asked the Japanese government to quickly check the information in the My Number system.

Kishida said: "Ensuring public trust is crucial to the transition to a digital society, and the government will do its utmost to regain people's trust as soon as possible. "

He also announced that he would adjust the relevant laws this fall to extend the replacement time of old and new ID cards until 2025, eliminating public doubts about the new ID cards, and the health insurance cards would last until 2025.
