Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, June 28 (Xinhua)-- the International Institute of Automotive Engineers (SAE International) said on Tuesday that its goal is to make Tesla's charging connector an industry standard within six months or less, which will make it easier for electric vehicle charging station manufacturers and operators to adopt the port. The International Society of Automotive Engineers is a multi-field engineering professional and technical organization and standards organization founded in the United States but active in the world.
Tesla's charging interface was originally its proprietary technology, but last year Tesla decided to open it, hoping to become the common standard for electric vehicles in the United States. The US Joint Office of Energy and Transportation is working with Tesla and SAE to promote Tesla's interface into a standard interface to improve the charging infrastructure in the United States. SAE is also working with the ChargeX Alliance, formed by the Biden administration, to have the Department of Energy's national laboratory help electric vehicle manufacturers build consistent technologies between vehicles and charging stations, such as GM error codes. SAE International also provides public key infrastructure (PKI) technology to protect the charging process from cyber attacks.
At the same time, ChargePoint also announced that its customers can choose to add Tesla's charging interface when ordering their commercial AC charging stations and DC fast chargers. ChargePoint also plans to launch a household AC charging system that supports the Tesla interface later this year. ChargePoint is one of many electric vehicle charging station companies that support Tesla charging interface. Other charging station companies that support Tesla interface include EVgo, Tritium, Blink and ABB. In addition, CTOnews.com previously reported that major traditional automakers such as Volvo, Ford, GM and Rivian have all announced that they will add Tesla interface to their future vehicles.
ChargePoint has about 2184 DC fast charging stations in North America and claims more than 743000 "active and roaming" AC and DC charging ports. Currently, most DC fast charging stations that are not owned by Tesla, such as those in mall parking lots, use the Joint charging system (CCS) as the main connector. Some of them may have CHAdeMO plugs to recharge Nissan leaf cars, but these plugs are dwindling.
Now that SAE supports the NACS standard, it may be easier for big charging companies such as Volkswagen's Electrify America to join the trend.
