CTOnews.com, June 27 (Xinhua)-- Google's first folding screen phone, the Pixel Fold, was officially released today (June 27), but the feedback from the first batch of reviewers was not optimistic. While most reviewers praised the phone's outer screen, camera and folding features, it was widely believed that its $1800 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 13032 yuan) price is too high. More surprisingly, the inner screen of one of the reviewers was completely broken after just four days of use.

The unfortunate reviewer, Ron Amadeo, editor of Ars Technica, said he did not treat the phone rudely. According to him, the screen malfunction occurred quickly, starting with the death of the 10 pixels at the bottom, and then the screen on the left could not respond to touch input. An hour later, a white gradient appears on the screen and gradually expands upward. In the end, the whole inner screen turned white.

The Pixel Fold's inner screen is a 7.6in OLED screen covered with ultra-thin glass and an unremovable plastic protective layer to prevent damage to the screen. But Amadeo noticed that the protective layer did not extend to the border, but left a small exposed area. This area is easy to accumulate dust, which pierces the OLED screen when the phone is folded. Amadeo looked at it with a magnifying glass and found a small scratch near where the screen went wrong.

Google seems to have made an obvious mistake in designing the frame, and the main problem is not that the protective layer does not cover the entire screen, because other companies that make folding screen phones do the same, the problem is the height of the frame. Most folding screen phones have slightly raised borders to ensure a little gap between the two halves of the screen. This is done to prevent accumulated dust from rubbing between the screens, while the Pixel Fold's frame and protective layer are the same height, meaning that when the phone folds, the screens on the left and right will come into direct contact.

Although only one user has encountered this problem so far, an editor of The Verge also found that after a few days of use, there was a small scratch on the pre-installed protective film on the Pixel Fold inner screen and a gap in the frame. Google has warned users that flexible screens are softer than traditional mobile screens and must avoid contact with sand, bread crumbs and sharp objects. Whether this problem is widespread or not will be revealed after the launch of mobile phones.
