CTOnews.com noted that Volkswagen's predecessor, CEO Herbert Deiss, announced the existence of the SSP platform in 2021, when it said it would be used in a compact model codenamed "Trinity" in 2026. However, as Herbert Dis stepped down and Oberman took over, the launch of the platform was delayed until last week's investor report, the new platform returned to its original schedule.

Moreover, thanks to the use of more standardized parts, Volkswagen will be able to continue to reduce the manufacturing cost of electric vehicles, and the profits of new models based on the SSP platform will be closer to those of the same class of fuel models, which is expected to truly implement the "same price for gas and electricity".

Volkswagen claims that capital expenditure and development costs for new cars on the SSP platform will be 30 per cent lower than those on the current mainstream MEB platform.
