CTOnews.com, June 27 (Reuters)-Indonesian national energy company Pertamina said last night that it plans to work with Electrum to develop electric motorcycle battery packs. Electrum plans to put millions of electric two-wheelers (including electric motorcycles, bicycles, scooters, etc.) on the roads of the Southeast Asian country.

The cooperation agreement between ▲ Tuyuan Electrum, a joint venture between coal mining company TBS Energi Utama and Southeast Asian technology giant GoTo Gojek Tokopedia, was signed at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Elecrtrum electric scooter factory on Friday. One of its goals is to produce 250000 electric scooters a year.

Pertamina officials said that the company's renewable energy division and Electrum will jointly develop and produce battery packs for electric motorcycles, and its battery assembly facility will have a capacity of 300MW.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Indonesia has the world's largest reserves of nickel, a key element in the production of electric car batteries. The government has been keen to promote the establishment of a complete supply chain with nickel at its core. Earlier, relevant officials of the Indonesian government said that they were actively promoting the construction of factories in Indonesia by the world's major electric vehicle manufacturers, including Tesla and BYD. However, due to the level of economic development, infrastructure construction and prices and other reasons, the current popularity of electric vehicles in Southeast Asia is not high.
