However, Blizzard's popular action role-playing game Diablo 4 also plans to add support for DirectStorage in the future, according to PC Gamer.

The site quotes an anonymous member of the Diablo 4 development team as saying: "MS DirectStorage is not enabled yet, but we plan to enable it in the future." MS DirectStorage is a Windows feature first announced by Microsoft in March 2022, which draws on the SSD storage technology used by Microsoft Xbox game consoles. This technology allows Windows game developers to take advantage of SSD on PC, resulting in faster loading times, higher frame rates, and better performance.

Currently, the only PC game that supports DirectStorage is Square Enix's Forspoken, which launched a PC version for Windows 11 only in January 2023. At a lower 1080p resolution, when running the game using PC that supports DirectStorage, the frame rate is much higher than that of PC that does not support this technology.

Recently, Microsoft released DirectStorage 1.2, adding new features such as buffered input and output mode, which means that games that support DirectStorage can use traditional mechanical hard drives (HDD) and SSD to improve game performance. It is hoped that when Diablo 4 adds support for DirectStorage in future updates, it will take advantage of the new features of version 1.2 to benefit more kinds of PC, and it is hoped that more games will support this feature.

Apart from Diablo 4, the only other game that says it will support DirectStorage in future updates is Crytek's Hunt: Showdown, as the game will be upgraded to the CryEngine 5.11 engine, which will also add support for features such as DirectX 12.
