It gives me great pleasure to participate in the Nishan Dialogue on Digital Civilization at the World Internet Conference. The theme of my speech is "Big Model reshaping the Digital World".

In the past year, artificial intelligence has advanced at the iterative speed of "week" in all aspects of technology, products, applications, and so on. The large model successfully compresses human cognition of the world and shows us the path to the realization of general artificial intelligence. The next frontier of the development of large models is not only to imitate human beings and complete human "prescribed actions", but also to help human beings to study and discover unknown areas and break through the limits that human beings have never broken through in the past. If we can take this step, it will be even more meaningful.

How do big models reshape the digital world? I would like to talk about the two aspects of technology and application:

At the technical level, in the era of artificial intelligence, the IT technology stack has undergone a fundamental change, from the original three-tier architecture of chip, operating system and application to four-tier architecture of chip, framework, model and application.

The bottom layer is the chip layer, and the mainstream chip has changed from CPU to GPU. Above the chip is the framework layer, and the mainstream frameworks include Baidu Flying Propeller, Meta's PyTorch and Google's TensorFlow. Above the framework is the model layer, and ChatGPT and Wen Xin big model are in the model layer. Large models have become the operating system in the era of artificial intelligence, and all applications will be developed based on large models. Above the model is the application layer, including a variety of AI native applications.

The structural change of IT technology stack means that artificial intelligence, especially large model technology, will reconstruct the global digital industry. Baidu has invested in artificial intelligence for more than 10 years, and has a full stack layout in the four layers of chip, framework, model and application. In the key core technologies, Baidu has leading products and technologies independently developed in the four-tier architecture. Therefore, end-to-end optimization can be carried out to quickly improve the efficiency of large model training and reasoning. The Wen Xin big model is completely autonomous and controllable, and we can control the data, the framework and the model.

Of course, the governance challenges brought by the artificial intelligence model can not be ignored. At the moment, big models are becoming hot. But four years ago, before the big model was widely noticed, Baidu launched Wenxin Model 1.0. Then it continues to evolve to version 2.0 and 3.0.

At the same time, we should give full play to the advantages of application scenarios, further cultivate vertical fields, create professional large models in financial, medical, power and other fields, achieve technical optimization with high-quality applications and data feedback, help large models to iteratively upgrade, and build AI ecology.

It can be predicted that the large model will infiltrate into more and more fields, and the digital economy driven by the large model will be deeply integrated with the real economy, which will strengthen, optimize and enlarge the real economy and create considerable incremental value. bring about profound changes in economic and social development and industry.

For example, in the automobile manufacturing industry, the most complex design links require experienced engineers to find various combinations to meet the needs in more than 20,000 parts and hundreds of thousands of parameters, and then write documents and draw drawings. In Changan Automobile, the large model can find the combination information efficiently, generate design documents automatically, and greatly reduce the R & D cycle and cost. In Sinopec and Southern Power Grid, the large model can go deep into the core business scenarios, innovate in intelligent customer service, supply chain and system scheduling, and promote the digital transformation and intelligence of the industry.

In the field of transportation, the intelligent transportation scheme supported by large model technology can improve the efficiency of traffic operation.

For example, Beijing's urban congestion index soared 2.5 times on the last working day before the May Day holiday this year. From the second ring block to the sixth ring, it is red, and the only green is Yizhuang. The traffic flow of Yizhuang has also increased significantly, but due to the deployment of the AI global signal control scheme, more than 300 intelligent intersections can automatically adjust the traffic lights according to the traffic flow, and Yizhuang has become an "oasis" without traffic jams. On the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, the traffic in Beijing was strikingly similar to that in Yizhuang: the city was very congested, but also smooth.
