CTOnews.com previously reported that the company set up its first-generation replacement power station in the San Francisco Bay area in 2021 to provide Uber drivers with power replacement services that can be completed in 10 minutes.

Recently, the company launched a second-generation replacement power station, which reduces the switching time to five minutes, which is closer to the refueling time of fuel-fueled vehicles. At the same time, the new generation of replacement power stations also have more space to accommodate electric delivery trucks.

In fact, battery swapping is not a new idea. Tesla demonstrated his power exchange system in 2013, but the company eventually abandoned the technology and focused on higher-power, faster charging solutions. Before Ample, many other companies made similar attempts to change electricity, but all of them failed.

Ample currently operates 12 first-generation power stations in the San Francisco Bay area, mainly for Uber delivery vehicles, and plans to set up next-generation power stations in Japan, Spain and the United States by the end of the year.

In the domestic market, brands such as Weilai are also actively promoting the business of changing power stations. As of June 25, 2023, the number of exchange power stations across the country has exceeded 1500, with a total of 16204 charging piles built. 1000 new exchange stations have been added in 2023 and will exceed 2300 by the end of the year.
