Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, June 25 (Xinhua) NASA recently shared two images showing a magnificent view of Mars under ultraviolet images. Both images, taken by the MAVEN probe on a scientific expedition around Mars, show the summer and winter scenes in the southern and northern hemispheres of Mars.

The MAVEN rover, whose full name is the Mars atmosphere and volatile Evolution Mission, entered Mars orbit on September 22, 2014 to study the Martian atmosphere and what makes it so thin and dry.

Both photos were taken by the Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrometer (IUVS) on the MAVEN detector, which can capture wavelengths between 110nm and 340nm beyond the visible spectrum.

The image below, taken in July 2022, shows the summer in the southern hemisphere of Mars. Compared with Earth, Mars takes about twice as long to orbit the sun, so the seasons on the red planet last about twice as long as on Earth.

In this photo, a crater called Argyre Basin can be seen in the lower left corner, covered with a pale pink atmospheric haze. In the upper left corner of the image is the deep canyon of Valles Marineris. The Antarctic ice sheet shrinks because of the warm summer, and white can be seen at the bottom of the image.

The following image was taken in January 2023, when the planet was in the furthest orbit from the sun. MAVEN provides a magnificent view of the northern hemisphere of Mars, whose harsh winters lead to the accumulation of ozone at the top of the planet, which is shown in vibrant magenta in this rendering.
