CTOnews.com, June 24, Canonical announced this month that it will launch All-Snap Desktop, a trial version of Ubuntu based entirely on Snap next year, and recently released an image with a capacity of about 12GB, inviting users to experience it.

Users can go to the Ubuntu Core Desktop GitHub page, click the Actions tab page, find the compiled version, and then scroll down to Artifacts to download the ZIP file.

After the download is completed, the user can decompress to get an image below 12GB, which can be flushed into the virtual machine or used to make a USB boot disk.

The All-Snap Desktop version provides developers with an immutable, Snap-based experimental version, which complements the existing version based on deb format and can ease some of the pain points in the current version.

Canonical announced that it will launch the All-Snap Desktop version in April next year, along with the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS version.

CTOnews.com note: the latest All-Snap Desktop beta release is not perfect, there are snap portal / permission mismatch, various content missing and other errors.

The setup wizard did not add a root user and cannot install the application using apt through CLI. You can install the application using Snap Store on the system.
