CTOnews.com June 24, Canonical announced today that the Ubuntu 23.10 distribution codenamed Mantic Minotaur has been upgraded based on the Linux Kernel 6.3 kernel.

Ubuntu 23.10 entered the development phase in late April this year, initially based on the same Linux Kernel 6.2 kernel as Ubuntu 23.04 (Lunar Lobster). After 2 months of development, the daily build ISO image is now upgraded to version 6.3.

Canonical plans to release Ubuntu 23.10 in October 2023, and Linux Kernel may be further upgraded as appropriate, with candidate versions expected at the end of August / early September.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Linux Kernel 6.3 introduced new current management drivers for ARM and RISC-V in terms of architecture. The new version also adds support for accelerated string functions for the RISC-V architecture through Zbb bit manipulation extensions.

On the file system side, optimized NFS file systems (both client and server) now support AES-SHA2-based encryption; optimize EXT4 direct I / O performance; reduce EROFS latency; and better support Btrfs file systems.

On the hardware side, Linux 6.3 introduced a native Steam Deck controller interface into the HID, allowing the Logitech G923 Xbox version of the steering wheel to run on the Linux; improving the behavior of the 8BitDo Pro 2 wired controller; and adding sensor monitoring to a series of Asustek Ryzen motherboards.
