CTOnews.com, June 23, according to the latest report released by IDC, Apple iPhone accounts for half of the Japanese mobile phone market, accounting for 53.8% of all mobile phone markets and 55.0% of the smartphone market.

According to the report, Japanese mobile phone shipments in the first quarter of 2023 were 7.75 million, down 23.6% from a year earlier, of which 7.59 million smartphones were shipped, down 23.7% from a year earlier, accounting for 98%.

Among smartphones, Apple shipped 4.17 million units, down 13.1% from a year earlier, accounting for 55.0%, while Android shipped 3.42 million units, down 33.6% from a year earlier.

Apple iPhone ranks first

Most of the iPhone sold in Japan are 64GB and 128GB models, accounting for 80 per cent of total iPhone shipments in Japan.

Most Japanese consumers prefer older iPhone models such as iPhone 11 focus iPhone 12 and the third generation iPhone SE.

Sharp shipped 1 million units, accounting for 13%, ranking second

Samsung shipped less than 450000 units, accounting for 6%, ranking fifth

Local manufacturers such as FCNT and Kyocera ranked third and fourth with 8.1 per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively.
