CTOnews.com, June 23 (Xinhua)-- the high-resolution Micro OLED display panel (OLEDoS) currently used in Apple's Vision Pro headset is supplied exclusively by Sony, but that is about to change.

According to South Korean media The Elec, China's domestic Vision Technology (SeeYA Technology) has placed an order with Sunic System, a manufacturer of display production equipment, to purchase deposition machines for OLEDoS production. The deal is worth 32.2 billion won (CTOnews.com Note: about 179 million yuan currently) and the contract will last until June 2024.

It is reported that Vision Technology purchased 29.5 billion won (currently about 164 million yuan) worth of production equipment from Sunic in 2018, and BOE, another large domestic screen manufacturer, also purchased 27.6 billion won (currently about 153 million yuan) worth of production equipment from Sunic in 2020.

The Vision Pro is equipped with two Micro OLED screens with a total of 23 million pixels and a monocular resolution of more than 4K.

Micro OLED, also known as OLEDoS, is a new display technology for the fabrication of active luminescent OLED devices on single crystal silicon wafers, and it is an innovative upgrade of OLED to improve the screen effect.

It is reported that compared with the traditional LCD and OLED,Micro OLED, which have the characteristics of high resolution, low power consumption, high brightness, high contrast, high color saturation, fast reaction speed, thin thickness and long life, the power consumption can be as low as 10% of LCD and 50% of OLED.

However, due to the high cost of large area silicon-based and complex production process, the cost of Micro OLED is relatively high.
