According to CTOnews.com news on June 22, Han Hua successfully developed and tested the world's first medium and large gas turbine in cooperation with Korea Western Electric Power Co., Ltd., more than 50% of its electricity comes from hydrogen.

On June 22, 2023, after a successful test in Dashan, Han Hua hydrogen turbine power generation and distribution team took a group photo. On the 21st, Han Hua successfully demonstrated a 59.5% hydrogen hybrid fuel at the Daejeon plant, marking the birth of a world record.

Carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by 22 per cent when using 59.5 per cent hydrogen mixed fuel to generate electricity compared with 100 per cent liquefied natural gas (LNG) combustion, while the allowable standard for domestic LNG gas turbine power plants in South Korea is 100 per cent without additional emission reduction devices.

According to reports, this medium and large gas turbine air pollutant (NOx) emissions are reduced to less than 6ppm, 30% lower than the standard limit of South Korea's LNG gas turbine power plant without other emission reduction devices.

It is reported that hydrogen mixing technology is currently being widely studied in the United States, Europe, Japan and other developed countries, but Han Hua is the first company to successfully demonstrate and approach commercial use, and they have overcome a variety of major technical difficulties.

In addition to the domestic hydrogen mixing technology obtained through the demonstration project, Han Hua plans to complete the production localization with eight domestic small and medium-sized enterprises through the national project. CTOnews.com inquiries noted that they also plan to use 100% hydrogen as fuel for a long-term carbon-free power generation plan.

Jin Xizhe, chief executive of Han Hua Hanwha Impact, said in a commemorative speech: "We have proved that hydrogen mixed combustion using LNG gas turbines is really feasible in South Korea, bringing us closer to commercialization," adding that "Han Hua will not stop here and will continue to challenge 100% hydrogen combustion."
