CTOnews.com, June 22 (Xinhua) although Microsoft has not officially announced whether Surface Duo will receive an update to Android 13, or even has not released an update for nine months, a former Microsoft developer has successfully ported Android 13 to Surface Duo.

It is reported that the Android 13 used here is based on Android 13 Pixel Experience and adapts to Surface Duo's single-screen, multi-screen and other modes.

Thai Nguyen has been working on this project for a long time. Judging from the real-world results obtained by Shane Craig, the Surface Duo running Android 13 is surprisingly smooth. So this raises another question for users: why didn't Microsoft do it itself?

In fact, Surface Duo's adaptation to Android 13 is not perfect, such as its border obscures part of the screen.

To put it simply, Nguyen mainly turns it into a Pixel device, similar to Pixel Fold's Android system. But in fact, because the Pixel Fold is a single-screen collapsible device with no hinges in the middle, Android 13 does not work perfectly with Surface Duo.

To the best of CTOnews.com 's knowledge, Microsoft updated Android 12L for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 in September 2022, but since then there have been few updates for these devices, at least no meaningful new features or major Android updates, and the company has not mentioned Surface Duo's Android 13 or Android 14 upgrade plans.
