Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, June 22 (Xinhua) according to a verdict issued by a federal jury in Delaware on Wednesday, Google must pay $15.1 million to patent holder company Personal Audio LLC (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 108 million yuan) because Google's music app Google Play Music infringes on two of the company's patents related to audio software.

Tu Yuan PexelsPersonal Audio LLC claimed that Google Play Music's playlist download, navigation and editing functions infringed its patent. The jury also said that Google had deliberately infringed the patents, which could lead the judge to increase the amount of compensation to three times the amount awarded.

Google spokesman Jose Castaneda said the company was disappointed with the verdict and planned to appeal. He said the ruling involved a "discontinued product" that would not affect customers.

A spokesman for Personal Audio LLC's law firm Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth said Wednesday that the company was satisfied with the verdict.

Beaumont, Texas-based Personal Audio LLC initially sued Google for patent infringement in 2015, seeking $33.1 million in damages, and the case was transferred from Texas to Delaware.

The verdict comes less than a month after Google was ordered by a San Francisco jury to pay $32.5 million in patent infringement damages to Sonos, when the two companies were involved in an intellectual property dispute over smart speaker technology.
