CTOnews.com, June 22 (Xinhua)-- Intel said on Wednesday that it will restructure its manufacturing operations in the first quarter of next year to make it a separate division and begin to generate profits. But the company did not give a clear timetable for when to start expanding and did not disclose new external customers, sending its share price down about 5 per cent.

David Sina, Intel's chief financial officer, said on an investor conference call that Intel's internal business unit would establish a customer-supplier relationship with its manufacturing business. Under this model, Intel will become the second largest contract manufacturer next year, with more than $20 billion in manufacturing revenue (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 143.6 billion yuan).

However, Intel's forecast is dwarfed by TSMC's sales. Kinngai Chan, an analyst at Summit Insights Group, estimates that TSMC's sales in 2024 will be close to $85 billion. Chan also said that Intel's statement actually tells investors that its current manufacturing capacity is insufficient and may remain inadequate for some time.
