CTOnews.com, June 22 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft is developing a new version of the Outlook for Windows app that plans to replace existing email and calendar apps. However, the exact timing of the plan has aroused opposition from users.

Initially, Microsoft sent a message to Microsoft admins that the new version of Outlook would start replacing email and calendar apps in September 2024. However, this time was met with dissatisfaction from some users, and Microsoft then sent another message saying that it was "re-evaluating the schedule."

Now Microsoft has released a new article on the Microsoft 365 message center, pointing out that it will not replace email and calendar applications with Outlook until the end of next year. This vague schedule shows that Microsoft still hasn't given a definite date, and it may take some time to make a decision.

The article also said that while subscribers to Microsoft and Office 365 can use the new Outlook for Windows app, after mail and calendar applications are phased out, users who do not subscribe "will need to manage their email and calendars in the web version of Outlook". This seems like a strange decision because some users may just want to use Outlook Windows applications as a desktop e-mail client.
