Thank CTOnews.com netizens W (U) for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com June 22, Microsoft is fully engaged in generative artificial intelligence projects, such as Copilot, Bing Chat and so on. However, the company has also been working on quantum computing, which could revolutionize the entire field of computing.

In a new blog post, Microsoft outlines a roadmap for creating quantum computers. Microsoft says it has achieved the first of these milestones, creating and controlling quasiparticles called Majoranas. Microsoft says this is the first step in making hardware-protected qubits, or qubit, which are an essential part of quantum computers.

"with this achievement, we are closer to creating a new hardware-protected qubit," Microsoft said. "with it, we can create reliable logical qubits, reach the level of elasticity (Resilient Level), and then expand further."

According to CTOnews.com, because qubits are sensitive to small external influences, it is tricky to create a quantum computer that can produce accurate results. Microsoft says it has proposed a new measure called reliable quantum operands per second (rQOPS). "it takes into account the performance of the entire system, not just qubits, so it ensures that the algorithm works correctly," Microsoft said. "our industry has not yet transitioned from the NISQ era, so today's quantum computers are at level 1, with a rQOPS of zero. The first quantum supercomputer needs at least 1 million rQOPS and will expand to more than 1 billion to solve influential chemistry and materials science problems."

In a chat with TechCrunch, Krysta Svore, senior vice president of quantum development at Microsoft, said that the last part of the company's quantum computing roadmap, which is to build a quantum supercomputer, could be reached within 10 years.
