UE 5 now supports the NVIDIA DLSS 3 plug-in. In addition, the latest blog post in the "Into the Omniverse" series focuses on the OpenUSD framework for improving creative workflows.

Editor's note: this article is part of our weekly NVIDIA Studio Creative acceleration series, which aims to introduce invited artists, provide creative tips and tips, and demonstrate how NVIDIA Studio technology can improve creative workflows. We will also delve into the performance, technology, and resources of the new GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU, and how they will significantly accelerate content creation.

Talented 3D artist Amir Anbarestani (aka "Kingsletter") shows off his Space Turtle scene in this week's NVIDIA Studio Creative acceleration program and shares this unforgettable moment.

Kingsletter says he has always had a passion for 3D art. When he was a child, he often enjoyed exploring and creating in an immersive environment. Whether he is playing with plasticine (putty modeling material) or creating pencil drawings, he can always spread his ideas freely in the vast 3D world, satisfying his innate desire for self-expression and finding resonance.

In the video below, he shares his inspiration and creative workflows powered by ZBrush, Adobe Substance 3D Painter and Blender.

The NVIDIA DLSS 3 plug-in, now available in UE 5, brings outstanding benefits to GeForce RTX 40 series GPU users, including high frame rate and super resolution through AI amplification technology.

In addition, 3D creative app Marvelous Designer will launch its NVIDIA Omniverse connector this month. Learn how talented artists use the connector and the Universal Scene Description ("OpenUSD") framework to take their creative workflow to the next level.

The NVIDIA DLSS 3 plug-in is now compatible with UE 5

NVIDIA Studio has released DLSS 3 plug-ins that are compatible with UE 5. UE 5's Play in Editor tool is very useful and allows game developers to quickly view the game process of a certain level during editing, while DLSS 3's AI magnification technology greatly increases the frame rate on computers equipped with GeForce RTX 40 series GPU, making the preview smoother.

NVIDIA DLSS 3 plug-ins can use DLSS 3 technology to achieve amazing visual details in UE 5.

In addition, some unreal engine windows can provide DLSS 2 super resolution and magnification technology for common content creation workflows such as modeling, lighting, animation and so on.

The working principle is shown in the figure.

Review the creation process of Space Turtle

Kingsletter first sketched and initially carved in the ZBrush tool, so the concept of "Sea Turtles floating in Space" took shape and eventually evolved into a lifelike animation, in which the baby turtles galloping towards the camera jumped on top of the picture.

Speaking of the sketch construction phase, Kingsletter said: "it's not difficult to shape the basic prototype of an idea, but it's amazing that I was able to get a great sense of satisfaction in the process. It's a unique pleasure to start working on a blank canvas and gradually bring the core elements of the concept to life."

After modeling in ZBrush, Kingsletter uses ZRemesher to retopology the model, that is, to generate a low-polygon version of the model that is suitable for the expected scene. This helps eliminate artifacts and solve other mesh problems before animating and binding bones.

Subsequently, Kingsletter deployed the UV mapping 3D software RIZOMUV to deploy the model. The process of unfolding the model is to open the model mesh so that the 2D texture can be covered on the 3D object. This can effectively help him to accurately texture objects, which is a common need of professional artists.

"NVIDIA graphics cards are the industry leader in the creative community. As far as I know, no one will use other GPU." -Kingsletter

Next, Kingsletter applied a variety of detail effects to the model surface in Adobe Substance 3D Painter, including imperceptible dust and extremely obvious wear effects, and in the process, he used a variety of materials that can simulate real-world gloss, subsurface scattering, and so on. RTX's accelerated light and ambient occlusion features fully bake the model in just a few seconds.

Kingsletter then animated the scene using Blender instead. He set up simple bone bindings and curves to bring the picture of turtles flapping their limbs flying in the universe to life. Z17 HX Studio A13V NVIDIA Studio, the creator of the microstar with GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, has great potential. The results achieved with this potential have completely exceeded the high expectations of the artist Kingsletter.

"as a digital creative professional, I always pursue the use of the best creative tools," Kingsletter said. "MSI Creator laptops can not only exceed my creative professional needs, but also immerse me in my favorite gaming hobby."

With the help of Blender's particle system, he randomly walks various debris, asteroids and a small rotating planet throughout the outer space scene, thus enriching the cosmic environment in his work. The OptiX ray tracing technology in Windows, powered by AI and accelerated by RTX, enables smooth interactive animation.

GeForce RTX graphics cards provide acceleration for Blender and help you create a magnificent world.

When Kingsletter talked about his first attempt to make this kind of animation, he said: "it turns out that simulating the smoke effect is the most challenging part. After several trial and error, I finally got a really satisfactory result."

The realistic smoke effect sublimates this 3D animation.

Kingsletter's RTX 4070 GPU enables smoother and more efficient final visual rendering through the RTX-accelerated OptiX ray tracing technology in Blender Cycles, while ensuring an ultra-fast final frame rendering experience.

When the artist Kingsletter was asked what advice he would give to himself when he was young, he said: "I will improve my observation skills. By deeply studying the intricate structures and paying close attention to the world around me, I will lay a more solid foundation for my creative path."

These words are wise words for all creators.
