CTOnews.com, June 21 (Xinhua) according to the Economic Times of India, the Indian Competition Commission (CCI) is about to end its antitrust investigation into App Store and concluded that Apple is expected to open its platform to competitors.

Apple has been under CCI investigation since it launched the App Store in September 2021 in response to a complaint from the non-profit organization Together We Fight Society.

These sources expect CCI to eventually repeat its previous requirements for Google (CTOnews.com: open third-party payment system on Google Play). As a result, Apple will most likely be asked to open a third-party payment system for App Store in India, rather than just requiring developers to use their own payment system.

Of course, this is not the first time Apple has been asked to open up its third-party payment system. In 2022, Apple complied with South Korean authorities' requirements to allow developers to use external payment methods. But even so, Apple limits options limited to apps released in South Korea and still charges a 25% commission.

In addition, Apple faces a similar situation in the European Union, so they are also making more extensive preparations for an open payment system for App Store, which is expected to be enforced by European digital market law in 2024.
