AMD said that prior to its acquisition by AMD in 2022, Xilinx had partnered with IDA Ireland several times to drive semiconductor innovation in Ireland. In 2017, Xilinx announced a $40 million investment to expand its research, development and engineering operations and hire more than 100 new, skilled employees.

Originally established in 1994, the Ireland site was Xilinx's first dedicated site outside the United States, focusing on manufacturing, operations support, engineering and management services. Since acquiring Xilinx, Ireland is now one of AMD's largest research and development sites in Europe.
