CTOnews.com June 21, Apple has confirmed that its upcoming AR reality Vision Pro will support the WebXR standard, allowing users to experience immersive virtual reality content in their browsers. This is an important announcement by Apple at the 2023 Global developer Conference and the first time the company has confirmed its support for the WebXR standard.

According to CTOnews.com, WebXR is a web standard that allows developers to create and render virtual reality games and scenes through browsers without installing additional software or plug-ins. Users only need to wear a head display to enter the panoramic virtual world in the browser and enjoy an immersive interactive experience. For example, users can play music games like Rhythm Lightsaber in the browser, or visit museums and tourist attractions online.

Apple says the Safari browser running on Vision Pro is a full-featured browser based on the same WebKit engine, but adds some special features to virtual reality. In addition to being able to browse ordinary web pages normally, Safari also supports WebXR standards and new tags for embedding 3D models in web pages. These features are still in the developer preview stage and need to be turned on manually, but Apple plans to make it an official feature of Safari after working with the industry to refine the WebXR standard.

The WebXR standard has been supported by many browser manufacturers outside Apple, including Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, as well as browsers on the head of virtual reality, such as Quest, Pico, Magic Leap and so on.
