Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Terrence for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, June 21 (Xinhua)-- Swedish streaming giant Spotify is preparing to launch a more advanced subscription program that includes Hi-Fi audio, which will provide CD-like sound quality through lossless compression, Bloomberg reported.

According to the official website of ▲ source Spotify, the new subscription service, called "Supremium", will be more expensive than the existing ad-free subscription service "Premium", which currently costs $9.99 a month (CTOnews.com Note: about 72 yuan). The service is expected to be first launched outside the United States in 2023.

Spotify has not commented on the news, but it announced in 2021 that it was developing a Hi-Fi feature. However, as Apple Music and Amazon Music begin to offer Hi-Fi audio for free through their respective subscription plans, it is doubtful whether Spotify's new service will be accepted by the market.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Spotify announced in early June that it would cut 200 jobs, mainly in vertical and related functions of the global podcast business, accounting for 2 per cent of Spotify's global workforce. The company posted a net loss of 225 million euros (currently about 1.712 billion yuan) in the first quarter, compared with a net profit of 131 million euros (currently about 997 million yuan) in the same period last year.
