CTOnews.com, June 21 (Xinhua)-- Apple has always insisted that users are only allowed to download iOS apps through App Store to ensure that they will not be affected by fraud. However, some applications can bypass the audit rules of App Store and get on the shelves quietly. Recently, there was a fake Trezor wallet app that misled users into thinking it was an official bitcoin and other cryptocurrency management app.

Trezor is a legitimate cryptocurrency wallet, but some iPhone users found that a fake app called "Trezor Wallet Suite" appeared on App Store a few weeks ago. Although the name Trezor wallet is used, it has nothing to do with Trezor. The Crypto Lawyers's Rafael Yakob reported that the app ranked first in App Store search results in the US and UK, which is very worrying. "the app has been around for several weeks, and although the total number of victims is unknown, it is likely to be hundreds or thousands." Yakob said.

The fake app asks users for large amounts of personal data, which may be used for malicious purposes. Apple has removed the app from App Store.

To the dissatisfaction of users, Apple is not very friendly to bitcoin apps. Many legitimate iOS apps that manage bitcoin and other cryptocurrency wallets are often rejected by Apple, but fraudulent apps like this can pass Apple's vetting process.

According to CTOnews.com, Apple allows cryptocurrency applications on App Store, but with strict conditions. For example, developers must have permission and permission to operate in the area where the application is on the shelf, and the application cannot use cryptocurrency to unlock content or features.

Last week, Apple threatened to remove Damus, a social networking app, from App Store because it allows users to reward personal posts using "Zaps", a bitcoin-based micro-transaction. Apple claims that rewarding personal posts is equivalent to selling digital content. Damus must remove this option from the iOS application to ensure that it is available on App Store.

Although Apple claims that App Store is "a place you can trust" and opposes sideloading, in real life, even Apple cannot guarantee that there are no fraudulent apps in App Store. If Apple really wants to prove that App Store is a safe place, it should make sure that fake and fraudulent apps like this never show up in its store.
